ADVISING CHECKLIST

1.      Welcome!

 

2.      If you have more than one active program, students will be allowed only one active program at a time; and you will need to choose which program to keep active.

Exceptions: Students will be allowed to keep open any programs that will be completed before the Fall Semester begins, i.e. August 14, 2023. Also see limited exceptions below.

 

3.      If the primary active program of study is not correct, the student should complete a found on the following webpage – Forms (https://gtcc.edu/student-life/records-and-transcripts/records-office-forms.php  If you change your Primary course of study, you are also changing advisors because you should be advised by someone who knows all about the program to which you are changing.

 

4.      Once you have completed your program change form (if needed) collaborate with the anyone who can sign your form including your Faculty Success Coach, Financial Aid Officer (if you are on Financial Aid), your Veterans Officer (if you are a Veteran).  Print off the Program of Study Pathway as found in the catalog, if needed. https://catalog.gtcc.edu/ Make sure your new program of study shows to be active in the GTCC computer system. It amy take a couple of days, from the time you submit your Program Change Form, until it shows active within the GTCC main computer system.

 

LIMITED EXCEPTIONS TO A SINGLE MAJOR

1.         If a student is pursuing an associate degree plus a stackable diploma and/or a certificate (where all courses are found within the primary major), they will be allowed to do so without further approval.

 

2.         Nursing students may have a second transfer major open without further approval (i.e. A1030N, Associate in General Education Nursing, AAS) in order to take classes that are not listed in the Associate in Nursing degree but will transfer to the 4-year university for a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

 

3.         Students who wish to pursue multiple programs of study in different disciplines at the same time must complete the Multiple Program Approval Form (see link below.) Approval from their faculty advisor, dean, and Senior Vice President of Instruction is required. This form requires that the student complete an educational plan that shows how they intend to complete the courses for both programs.
