ADVISING CHECKLIST FOR MEETING WITH YOUR ADVISEE

PLEASE TALK TO YOUR DEAN IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEW POLICY

b.      Status P           pending (controlled by Admissions)

c.       Status C           closed

d.      Status G           graduated

5.      If the student has more than one active program, explain to the student that only one program may be active at a time; and that they need to choose which program to keep active.

Exceptions: Students will be allowed to keep open any programs that will be completed before the fall semester begins. Also see limited exceptions below.

6.      If the primary active program of study is not correct, the student should complete a Program Change Form (attached) and also found in Records Office – Forms (https://gtcc.edu/student-life/records-and-transcripts/records-office-forms.php

7.      Collaborate with the student to identify courses for the upcoming semester.  Print off the Program of Study Pathway as found in the catalog, if needed. https://catalog.gtcc.edu/

LIMITED EXCEPTIONS TO A SINGLE MAJOR

1.         If a student is pursuing an associate degree plus a stackable diploma and/or a certificate (where all courses are found within the primary major), they will be allowed to do so without further approval.

2.         Nursing students may have a second transfer major open without further approval (i.e. A1030N, Associate in General Education Nursing, AAS) in order to take classes that are not listed in the Associate in Nursing degree but will transfer to the 4-year university for a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

3.         Students who wish to pursue multiple programs of study in different disciplines at the same time must complete the Multiple Program Approval Form (attached.) Approval from their faculty advisor, dean, and Senior Vice President of Instruction is required. This form requires that the student complete an educational plan that shows how they intend to complete the courses for both programs.
