CHECKLIST FOR MEETING WITH YOUR ADVISEE
PLEASE TALK TO YOUR DEAN IF
YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEW POLICY
1. Welcome the student and
introduce yourself if you have not met previously.
2. Ask student about his/her
major.
3. In Colleague, double check the
student’s program of study and contact information.
4. Check the status of each
program listed for the student:
a. Status A active
b. Status P pending
(controlled by Admissions)
c. Status C closed
d. Status G graduated
5. If the student has more than
one active program, explain to the student that only one program may be active at a time; and that they need to
choose which program to keep active.
Exceptions: Students will be allowed to
keep open any programs that will be completed before the fall semester begins. Also
see limited exceptions below.
6. If the primary active program
of study is not correct, the student should complete a Program Change Form (attached)
and also found in Records Office – Forms (https://gtcc.edu/student-life/records-and-transcripts/records-office-forms.php
7. Collaborate with the student
to identify courses for the upcoming semester.
Print off the Program of Study Pathway as found in the catalog, if

8. Record the student’s
academic plan in Self Service. https://selfservice.gtcc.edu/Student/Planning

Navigate for Academic Plans but by Spring 2024 all Academic Plans will be
completed using Self Service.
LIMITED
EXCEPTIONS TO A SINGLE MAJOR
1.
If a student is pursuing an associate degree
plus a stackable diploma and/or a
certificate (where all courses are found within the primary major), they will
be allowed to do so without further approval.
2.
Nursing students may have a
second transfer major open without further approval (i.e. A1030N, Associate in
General Education Nursing, AAS) in order to take classes that are not listed in
the Associate in Nursing degree but will transfer to the 4-year university for
a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
3.
Students who wish to pursue multiple programs
of study in different disciplines at the same time must complete the Multiple Program Approval Form (attached.) Approval
from their faculty advisor, dean, and Senior Vice President of Instruction is
required. This form requires that the student complete an educational plan that
shows how they intend to complete the courses for both programs.
